As brands continue to disrupt the status quo on shelf by blending features of two or more categories with each other, experts note that the craft beer segment is facing strong headwinds, having a tough time keeping pace with the beer category.
Due to COVID-19, the independent craft beer market is seeing product volume declines of around 8 percent. Yet, craft brewers have been able to invest in new platforms and modes of selling. Those utilizing eCommerce and offering enhanced to-go offerings and food are reinventing themselves to drive growth.
For about a decade, the craft beer segment has grown at immense rates, influencing the food and beverage industries in many ways. Yet, experts note that the segment is beginning to experience some growing pains as a result of its rapid growth.
Three cities in Maryland recently named October “Shore Craft Beer and Hard Cider Month.” One of them in Ocean City, also hosted a Shore Craft Beer Festival, which took place Oct. 24 and featured local brewers, according to the Caroline Times Record.
Of the more than 100 beer styles defined by the Boulder, Colo.-based Brewer’s Association (BA), seasonal craft beers tend to be the most popular, according to analysts.
